I love the Moments and learned a lot from them. I do much better if I “see” something being done than if I just read it. Keep them coming, Paul!

PS I love your voice too.

To fix the existing audio, try Audacity -
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Free and pretty simple I think…

I’m not too familiar with it, though it does have noise reduction and filters (high pass in particular) which could be of great help for “fixing it in the mix” for these existing recordings.

I use Digital Performer myself (which has many more advanced tools), but by the looks of it, Audacity should do the trick!

A mic stand with a boom would get the mic off the desk, (or a headset mic) to eliminate vibration noise and proximity noise. In addition, a bit of baffling around the computer would help absorb some of the noise.

Alternatively, (perhaps better?) one might re-record the audio track(s) in post…the other benefit to this being that you can punch in and out to repair verbal slip ups as well as eliminating the need to do it perfectly in one pass. Ultimately this would likely speed up your productions once you built a workflow…

Hope these things help - enjoy!

It’s a directional mic, but not on a headset. It sits on my desk infront of my iMac and is set to the narrowest pick up angle it has. I do have a tripod with a nifty directional arm - I could try mounting it on that which may cut out some of the less desirable noises too.

I’ll take a look at headsets and see what I can do when I kick off the next batch.

Paul,
are you using a directional mic on a headset? these can be great at
cutting out any background sound and can be quite cheap.
Not saying this will sort your problem but it might help.

Currently I don’t think there are any clear, simple links to “Moments’” from the official support page - I found them by chance browsing once, and then tried the official support page to find them again without any success. (Only found through forums?)

These bits are very helpful in fast tracking the UI, which otherwise is more than a bit convoluted. (It’s not Quark - it’s not Dreamweaver - WTF? LOL) Thanks!!!!!!!!!! Hope for more too…

They played the banjo in the movie “Deliverance” - nuff said.

You have a nasty 60 cycle hum in your audio as well. Best to fix it before you record, but it can be killed in post.
:-)

*Just a couple of “IMHO” notes, from someone who knows too much about everything, and not enough about one thing…cheers!

Paul, I just saw your tuts…they are great! I’m a beginner and these movies are SO much better then the manual I ordered. I think you should produce a CD. I know I would buy one. Thanks for your efforts. Oh btw…the music is great especially the beginning movie tune. Perhaps to satisfy others just turn down the banjo a notch.
The music makes the tut friendly and not so dry.

Paul,
very nice tutorials. But please, don’t use background music in the future. I found it very hard to concentrate on what you are explaining. I have seen dozens of online tutorials and none of them had background music. Keep up the good work. (thumbs up, that is, we need some more emoticons)

Nice work Paul, and I have already learned one thing I didn’t know you could do in the rollover panel .

But I do think the background music is unnecessary !

Old jazz joke - what is the best sound a banjo ever makes ?

A. Splash !

keep up the good work though, it will help a lot of people

The plan is to then add to the library, and there will be Pro only Moments.

sorry paul, late reaction, but that would be so great! The info on the softpress site is so old, and ( thanks to heather, we love you to ) the only thing decent is the pref book.

i get so many questions from people who would like to use fw (pro ) and don’t know where to start, how to start. abouth css and freeway, that i can’t answer.
when on some mac-forums they ask questions, the only answers you get, is..let a pro make your website….

i realy love freeway, but sometimes it realy bugs me, that a lot of info comes from this freeaytalk and not from the softpress website!
and i know a lot of the sp people watch here, write here and are here, but they should realy make their own site a bit more 2007(8)

please keep up this good work Paul ( and Heather ) i’m very greatfull! without you and some of the (bigg…..) guys here, i would be desparate sometimes…
( and this comment without even a glass of wine!)

Hi,
as part of the ongoing project to provide educational material for Freeway, we have embarked on producing [i:38ec3a4579]Freeway Moments[/i:38ec3a4579]. This is a series of short instructional videos which focus on a specific element or activity in Freeway. Each moment lasts around 5 minutes, and so could be watched over that cup of tea and biscuit.

We currently have three at the moment - more are planned. http://www.softpress.com/support/freewaymoments.php

As RSS feed is planned - I’ll post more when it’s up and running.
