I can understand wanting to conform to standards and traditions, but this is a behavior that is not common in modern apps and the last version of MacDraw that came out was in 1994, 14 years ago.

It’s meant to work in a manner similar to MacDraw and similar apps.

FWIW, you can also lock a tool by holding down the command key while selecting it.

The problem with that is you have to do it for each tool you use, and every time you change tools it erases the lock. You should be able to turn off this “feature”.

I don’t understand why some tools (pen, text) keep you in the tool after you have used it, and others rectangle, dimension lines, scissors change you to the select tool.
