Common fonts to be found on the Mac and PC

PC and MAC font Guide

A few weeks ago I needed to show a client, a rough guide to the available fonts that you can expect to see on the average PC and Mac machine, so I created the linked page as a way of indicating that list. (The actual list of fonts came from a book I have)

It seemed to me that this may be of some use to others and so I have placed the page on my site for people to use as a reference. At least it should give people a little more confidence when choosing a font other than Verdana, Times, Helvetica or Arial.

The fonts are based around the most popular browsers on there respective platforms: Safari for the Mac OSX and IE for Windows XP. I have also checked the list using Firefox and even though the mac version shows all the fonts correctly I did notice that FireFox on the PC has one font that is not correct, it turns out to be Webdings.

One final proviso, if you are using some sort of font management software like Suitcase, and you have only the font needed to run the computer then unfortunately your going to out of luck its all going look like Times or Helvetica

This is really useful, Max. I think it might be even better if you took screenshots of the fonts and put them next to the HTML text, so you could see what you’re missing in all cases.

Two tiny typos: Fantacy should be Fantasy, and Centry should be Century.

Thanks for posting this!
