get selection area script

I am a new french user of intaglio. I work with the new Intaglio version 3.0 beta 5 and the script to calculate area don’t work. the result is false. Can you guive me a solution because i work on my house plan. Why don’t you implement this tool on the information window? I am an old user of Claris Cadd and it is the firs time i find with intaglio a program as easy to use. thank gchriss

I would not recommend Intaglio for floor planning. Intaglio is not that kind of software, especially a beta. If you need to do floor plans, software like Ribbonsoft’s QCad or Punch Software’s ViaCAD (the latter is also a 3D modelling program).

I hope that helps. :)

I think if this is a bug in version 3 only Nick can tell, what to do. Did you send a bug report? Beside this, I saw last week in a german forum a review of a nice piece of software called Sweet home 3d. Try it, it is free of charge, it is open source and seems, that you can sketch 2D floor ground and generate a 3d view also. The link is: http://sweethome3d.sourceforge.net/fr/index.html

There’s a bug in the area calculation on Intel computers running the current beta version. This isn’t a problem with the current release version and will be fixed in the next beta.

The area and perimeter don’t appear in the geometry inspector because they are computationally intensive to calculate (at least compared to the other information) so it’s better not to calculate them every time the selection changes. Also, it’s not clear how many people find this information useful.

FWIW, my feeling is that Intaglio isn’t intended to be CAD software but it does provide an easy way to create simple scale drawings. I wouldn’t suggest it for complex CAD operations, but for basic floor plans it generally does a good job.
