Rollovers Freeway 5
HI, this might be a silly question, but…
I’ve built quite a few sites in Freeway 3 pro, and I’ve just upgraded to 5. Now I wasn’t expecting them to open seamlessly, but on the whole they have, apart from the rollovers.
So I’ve tried to recreate them from scratch, but the main issue I’m having is a bit like ‘runaround’ in quark - when I duplicate the graphic text item, it makes the one underneath disappear, whether it’s layered or not. It’s VERY annoying. (Just like runaround in Quark.)
I’m sure I’m missing something simple. Please enlighten me.

3 Jul 2008, 4:04 pmHi,
When the item is duplicated, it will appear on top of the other by default, unless you change the horizontal/vertical offsets.
For the rollovers, the items will need to be stacked in this way. What you can do is apply the rollover to the graphic item and you will see a list of the items in the Actions palette.
Assign the normal/mouseover/click and then in the list, there are the headers for normal, mouseover and click. If you click on these headers, it will change which state has focus, so you can see the other graphic items.

3 Jul 2008, 4:23 pmNo, with respect, I know all that. This is a different issue. When the item is duplicated, it’s forcing the text out of the one below it. If I grab one of the corners of the bottom-most item and enlarge it, the text eventually turns bak up, but it won’t go underneath the top one. It’s exactly like having runaround turned on in Quark,

3 Jul 2008, 6:25 pmSince they are graphic text items try saving them out as graphic files for each rollover state, then bring them back into Freeway as graphic items. Doing this should keep the text uneditable so it cannot shift.

3 Jul 2008, 6:32 pmThat would work. Bit of a hassle though. It’s really odd. Rollovers used to be so simple - from what I’ve read on here, Softpress seem to have made them far more complicated.

3 Jul 2008, 6:50 pmHi Spark,
A Rollover consists of one or more touching (non layer) graphic item/s set to combine with each other. The Rollover Action is then applied to the topmost item, you will then see all the images in the stack in the Action palette. It’s in there that you can choose which images should be displayed in which state.
If you are using layers then, since they are all on separate layers, they won’t combine with each other so there will only be one item in the Action palette (the one with the Action applied to it). You need to select all the items you want to make into a Rollover and group them (Item>Group). Once you’ve done that you can apply the Rollover Action and will see all the items in the Action palette as expected.
I hope this helps.

3 Jul 2008, 7:32 pmHi Joe, it kind of helps. I’ve tried it with layers and grouped objects and also without layers. The issue seems to stem form the items I’ve brought in from the old site. Starting from scratch, it doesn’t seem to be happening. Which is ok, apart from Having to rebuild existing sites completely if they need amending. Or I guess I could use my old mac and do it in version 3.
Anyway, cheers for the thoughts.

3 Jul 2008, 7:40 pmI’m curious, are these rollovers for a menu/nav or something else?
