[Pro] Size of webpage

I am about to design my website. My worries are if I set the page size to say e.g. 800 x 600 pixels, I don’t have enough space depth wise to take everything that I want to add like listings and lots of product pictures (for a business website), without adding lots of pages therefore can I just specify the width and make the depth much deeper, or do I just specify the width and leave the depth measurement blank. Please help and then I can move on and start.

Web pages can grow to any height, and Freeway will let you set your design page area to any height you need (within reason).

The starting height is a good reminder that many people won’t scroll down unless the content really interests them, so anything you might want to say that would whet their appetites for more ought to be positioned within that “first” part of the page. In newspaper design, this area is referred to as “above the fold” and it’s the golden rectangle of important (or at least engaging) content.

Oh, and there are good starting sizes in the new document settings in Freeway that are what’s left over when Windows + browser chrome eat up most of the available vertical space. 800 x 600 has a browser-safe area of about 770 x 390 pixels when all is said and done.

Hi Walter Thanks very much for your speedy response, and now I have the answer I can start. Would you also by any chance know how I can add a page background image, like a tile graphic?

Thanks Brian

Click on the pasteboard (the area outside of the design page area) and look in the Page Inspector. The second tab across the top (paint brush, kinda looks like a screwdriver) has the page background options in it. Pull down the Image picker to Select… and navigate to your picture. It’s a very good idea to have optimized this image already in an image editor and saved it in one of the three Web-friendly image types: JPEG, GIF or PNG.
