[Pro] Action - for text

Hi there, I know I am being lazy… though is there a Action for HTML text effects, like the Safari CSS Text effect? or a HTML text glow effect.

thanks

Hi Paul,

Take a look at the CSS3 Goodies Actions: http://www.actionsforge.com/projects/view/78-css3-goodies

Aha… (and I already have been using these) I was typing out a reply about to state CSS shadow effect… then though hold on, make black white and it is a glow, and for text shadow apply to text… I am trialling now.

thanks

Ah sorry, I hadn’t realised they didn’t do text. For the time being you’ll need to add your own styles (following Keith’s steps in your second link).

Walter you are just too quick - I was working on an example for Paul and in the time it takes me to put it together you have created an action!

I’m going home!

Oops! I am at home - goodnight.

I only tested it in Safari — what are you seeing wrong there? And what version?

As to the speed of writing it, all I did was rejig my CSS3 Box Shadow Action a tiny bit…

Hi Walter wow, fantastic. I had successfully created about 2 hours ago ‘style that actually work, on Safari, Chrome and Firefox. Your Action CSS3 Text-Shadow can only be inserted is this correct?

I have compared apples with apples…

check it out here… http://www.concretecreative.co.nz/css3test/

Yes, this is an inline-only Action at the moment. I might make a container-based version if you think it would be useful. The style code would be applied to the box, so any and all HTML text in that box would inherit the shadow effect.

Hi Walter, I think it would be very useful to have an Action that does that. I did nail the styles… though I did find out it takes with the Action and too the styles it takes tweaking and certain exact shades to get it right.

With the Action (maybe a paid Action) would be do to have presets? Pretty hard to do though right?

Anyway thanks again. Did you see the 2 examples I did one using the a style extended and your CSS3 Text- Shadow action?

Also sorry about the email issue I was having.

The box version is up on ActionsForge. It works exactly the same way as the inline version, only you apply it to the container HTML box.

The page is here http://www.marshallbutchers.com/letterpress.html

Looks fine in FF 3.6.3 but in Safari 4.0.5 I am not getting it - if you select the text there seems to be some sort of shadow there but not the same as the FF version.

Your PNG has a color profile that’s changing the color of it in Safari (FF ignores profiles). For me the image is a lot lighter in Safari, the same color as the shadow basically.

The profile appears to be called “Dot gain 15%” according to the Finder.

Thats interesting Joe - didn’t know that about Safari.

My PS colour profile for greys was set to Dot Gain 15% and I didn’t realise.

I have reset it now to the presets for Europe Web/Internet.

I am sure that Keith will have a comment about what is best.

Hi when you save jpegs, gifs, pngs for web are you saving via ‘Save for Web and Devices’ in the file menu of Photoshop? It is best to and also make sure the ‘embed profile’ in the save for web is switched off and tick on ‘convert to sRGB.

This is the method I stick to and always when deigning for web go to Bridge and set the ‘suit colour settings’ from there Europe Web/Internet it will set the ‘suit colour settings’ across the board for Indesign, Illustrator, Photoshop etc. AND when you want to design for print, open Bridge and set ‘suit colour settings’ for Europe Prepress 2 (or 3 if you have CS5) or a setting that suits your print medium. I personally use Adstream Quickprint and Pagestore to set my colour setting for Magazine, Billboards, newspapers etc as each printer has a special requirement.

Wow way off topic.

No - not as a rule because usually my images are psd and reprocessed by FW. But because in this instance the file was a background image FW left it alone.

Hi Walter I have just created this, I also created a style inner and outer shadow (not sure of the term here)..Thank you very much for the action it is so fast and easy… trying this in styles has taught me a lot in Freeway Pro.

check it out here. Also how could this be applied to your Action? http://concretecreative.co.nz/css3test/

That’s really cool. I could probably make an additional set of interface elements and allow you to add this feature, but I wonder how it would degrade in other browsers.

It seems to work fine in Safari and Firefox (latest versions) on the Mac, but I haven’t tested it elsewhere yet.

I think a badge with this one:

‘get a mac’ ‘best viewed on Safari’ ‘best viewed on Chrome’ best viewed on Firefox’ ‘best viewed not on Explorer’

only joking… I guess though if you are using the text-shadow would need to make sure that the text will view without it.
